Dear Downtown Yoga Community,

We will be closing the studio effective Tuesday, March 17th due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This decision is gut wrenching and one we have not taken lightly. 

Louisiana has one of the highest per capita rates of coronavirus cases, and this will only get worse if do not act responsibly as a community and as individuals.

The call for action is now, and it’s our highest duty as citizens to do the right thing.

In the meantime, we will do our best to maintain our existing class schedule, with all classes streamed online in our private Facebook group, “Downtown Yoga Community”. Please let us know if you are interested in attending class this way, but unfamiliar with how to utilize Facebook. 

Moving forward, you can register for class as usual on MindBody, and then watch the video in the Facebook group. We can see who is watching the video on our end, but it would be most helpful if you can register for the class, so we can more easily keep track of viewers. You can also comment or like the video if you did not register in MindBody. 

The good news about Facebook Live is you can watch the video at any time following the live stream. There will be a video library to choose from as time goes on.

PS:

Prop replacements you can use at home: 

Strap: you can use a belt, jump rope, or any other long rope.
Blanket: large towel or quilt/throw blanket
Bolsters: firm pillow(s)
Blocks: these are tricky to substitute, but in some poses your water bottle may suffice. ;) Also if it’s to sit on, a thickly folded towel will do the trick. 

We understand that this is a challenging time, and a big part of this challenge is that we are in unknown territory. The Unknown can be a scary thing, but it is truly the basis of all things. (When we ask the deepest questions about who we are, we realize the importance of finding comfort, trust, faith, in life’s greatest mysteries.) If we can use our yoga, our breath, our meditation practices and nature (this weather, what a beautiful gift!), we can channel our inner wisdom, connection, and peace to get through this, together.

THE HOW TO

Log in to your Nest MindBody account (be sure to access this from the Nest app or the www.nest-yoga.com website. Make sure your email address is current and that you are subscribed to receive our email updates. (This step is important as your links for online classes will be emailed to the address we have on file associated with your account). Once you follow this link to MBO, click on My Info, log in, and then check all boxes concerning email notifications. Consider adding a credit card so you can easily process any charges for your classes.

Prior to your first class, download the Zoom app for desktop or mobile using the same email address and your full name. For the best experience, you’ll want to join us from a device with a video camera and microphone. A laptops are probably the best but tablets and even mobile phones also work. This way, we can both see and hear you. You have the option to join class without video from your end if you prefer. Please confirm your Zoom connection before class begins.

Sign in for classes on our website up to 10 minutes before class start time. You can find our schedule here. www.nest-yoga.com/classes

An email from frontdesk@nest-yoga.com with a class link will be sent to you 10 minutes prior to class. Click on the link (letters are all blue and underlined). Click “join with zoom.us”. Click “join with computer video/audio”.

The teacher will launch the meeting 10 minutes before the start time. During this period microphones will not be muted, unless you mute yours, and the teacher will do their best to greet the class. At class start, the teacher will mute all students and record the class.

We will edit the recorded classes and upload them to our new online library (not available yet - currently being created) for future on-demand access.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Please know that we are working out all the kinks as quickly as we can. Your patience with us is much appreciated as we work toward making this experience seamless.

USING ZOOM
Will I be seen in my house as I am practicing?
Once you click to join the classroom, you will have the choice to join with our without video. If you choose with, the teacher and other attendees will see you. These classes will not be recorded, so you don’t have to worry about anyone seeing you other than your virtual classmates and your teacher. You can ‘stop video’ of yourself by hovering over your photo and clicking on the 3 dots > stop video.

How do I see only the teacher?
“Speaker” view allows you to follow the teacher, while “Gallery” view will show other students in the class. Since a lot of us know each other, it can be nice to connect this way. You may want to start in “Gallery” view and then switch to “Speaker” view when class starts.

Can I ask questions during the practice?
Once class starts, your microphone will be muted. This reduces audio feedback for all attendees. Use the chat feature to ask questions during class and we will do our best to respond to them. You cannot ask the teacher questions.

What should I do if my internet connection isn’t working well?
If your internet connection slows down during class, try turning off your video camera so you can still see the class, but the teacher and other people in class can’t see you. This helps decrease the load on your wifi connection. You could also try a different browser – Chrome seems to work best.

What happens if my class feed suddenly stops?
This has happened, but it is rare. If this happens, the teacher will have to restart the ‘meeting’. Check your email – you will be sent a link to the new meeting. Thanks for your patience – we are all still climbing the learning curve.

CLASS FEES
How do i pay for my online classes?
You can use your class passes or memberships to virtually attend class. Payment for live, online classes will be taken as if classes were held in-studio. For Members and Class Pack holders, these classes will be covered with your pricing option. New students can use our 14 days for $40 welcome special. What should I do if I have a membership?
Our auto pay members are the heart and soul of our studio. You have made a regular commitment to your yoga and our studio, and we are so grateful that you trust us to charge your card monthly for this. If at all possible, please consider keeping your passes and memberships active to help our small business through this difficult era. If you have special circumstances, email us here.

Are you offering any free classes?
For now, we are hoping to continue with our ‘in-studio’ pricing model to best support our fixed costs and our teachers. We do plan to have new ‘livestream pricing’ available in the near future. Thank you for your understanding and support.
